Bill C-21 – November 2025
November 5, 2025
As a result of intimate partner violence related homicide statistics, the Government of Canada introduced new provisions to Bill C-21. These included: the Revocation due to Protection Orders or Domestic Violence and the “Red Flag” and “Yellow Flag” Laws (Government of Canada, 2025). This law gives police the authority to remove guns from a household and or individual for a minimum of 30 days if the individual may pose a danger to themselves or others, or a third party who could be a risk in providing firearms to such an individual such as a friend, roommate or colleague (Government of Canada, 2025). Being aware of this law is important as it highlights the government’s commitment to prevent firearm-related IPV tragedies by proactively removing access to guns in situations where there is a demonstrated risk of violence or harm.
